The new Fire Station No. 3 includes administrative offices, living quarters, vehicle and equipment maintenance areas, and dedicated infrastructure to manage hazardous material containment. The training center features a training tower, instructional props, and a classroom for hands-on and theoretical instruction.
Following the completion of the Master Plan, design and construction documents were developed for the 6,700-square-foot fire station. The layout was planned with future expansion in mind, allowing for the addition of more apparatus bays.
A key design goal was to ensure flexibility—allowing the initial living quarters to be converted into a future training classroom and relocating those living spaces to the opposite side of the apparatus bays to accommodate additional firefighting personnel.
The architectural design was submitted and successfully approved by both the City Planning Commission and City Council. Full architectural and engineering construction documents were prepared and permitted.
The project was completed successfully with minimal design-related change orders. The original construction cost was $4,897,000, with a total budget variance of 7.5%. Of that variance, 2% accounted for City-requested enhancements, 3% was related to PG&E and utility adjustments, and less than 3% was attributed to design changes.
