San Luis Obispo County recently made headlines when the Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a $4.6 million contract with Crestwood Behavioral Health to operate a new Enhanced Short-Term Residential Therapeutic Program (E-STRTP) for foster youth at 2180 Johnson Avenue in San Luis Obispo — a facility designed to keep county children in local psychiatric care rather than sending them out of county for treatment.

Between July 2025 and May 2026, 81 minors were placed out of county for psychiatric care, totaling 809 days away from their families and support systems. The new facility — four dedicated beds within a renovated Crisis Stabilization Unit — will change that.

Omni Design was selected by the County of San Luis Obispo Public Works Department to provide full architecture, civil, and engineering services for the remodel of the existing Crisis Stabilization Unit at the Health Agency Campus. Our scope spans design through construction administration, and our team has been working alongside FTF Engineering (structural), BMA (mechanical/plumbing), JMPE (electrical), and Omni's own civil team to deliver a safe, code-compliant, dignified facility for some of the county's most vulnerable residents.
