The Design-Build project, competitively bid for Cal Poly and the California Central Coast Research Partnership, established a technology lab facility designed to bridge academia and industry. The building serves as a collaborative space where research firms can lease both dry and wet labs while working alongside Cal Poly students. The design prioritized flexibility to accommodate diverse tenant requirements and equipment needs.
Omni Design, Inc. secured the contract through their comprehensive schematic design services and presentation documents. The project emphasized multiple key objectives: building flexibility, efficient maintenance, sustainability, environmental design, energy conservation, and overall design quality. As a LEED certifiable building, it incorporates sustainable practices with a focus on resource, water, and energy conservation.
The firm provided full-service support, including architectural and engineering services, and Construction Administration. Their civil engineering work encompassed graphic design, hydrology, hydraulic design, erosion control, storm drain systems, and road and parking design. Additionally, Omni Design, Inc. managed coordination with regulatory bodies, including the Division of State Architect (DSA), ADA compliance, and the Regional Water Quality Control Board.
