Omni Design conducted a comprehensive evaluation of Fire Station No. 15 for the Los Osos Community Services District, a facility originally built in the early 1960s with additions in the 1970s. The assessment focused on seismic integrity, life safety, energy efficiency, accessibility, code compliance, and operational functionality, and was completed between December 2022 and April 2023.
Key Features
Multi-Tiered Assessment: The evaluation included stakeholder interviews with station staff on equipment, operations, and maintenance needs; a physical assessment of structure, utilities, and operational flow; and development of a multi-tiered improvement plan ranging from seismic upgrades to full facility replacement.
Improvement Options: Omni’s report presented three distinct options, minimal upgrades, moderate renovations, and a new facility, each with associated cost estimates to support long-term capital budgeting.
Key Recommendations: Findings included advanced alerting systems for vehicle deployment safety, upgraded living spaces with modern environmental controls and durable finishes, emergency system redundancy, and dedicated decontamination zones.
Outcome
Omni Design’s report provided the Los Osos Community Services District with cost-effective upgrade options, ensuring Fire Station No. 15 remains resilient, operationally efficient, and future ready. The findings gave district leadership the information needed to make informed decisions about both immediate safety improvements and long-term facility investment.
