Omni Design provided Architectural Programming and Design Services to develop a Public Safety Master Plan on an 8.5-acresite to accommodate the City’s new Fire Station No. 3, and public safety training center.
The new Fire Station No. 3 includes offices, living quarters, vehicle and equipment maintenance space, and provisions for controlling the spread of hazardous materials. The training center included a training tower, props, and a training classroom.
Once the Master Plan was complete, design and construction documents were prepared for the 6,700 SF Fire Station component. The design made provisions for the addition to include additional apparatus bays for future construction.
The design’s objective was to easily convert the living quarters into a future training classroom and relocate the living quarters to the opposite side of the apparatus bays to provide more space to house more firefighting personnel.
The architecture design was submitted to the City and approved by the Planning Commission and City Council. Architectural and Engineering construction documents were prepared and approved for permitting.
The project was successfully built with minimal design related change orders and fully operational. The construction cost was originally $4,897,000 and there was an 7.5% variation from the original budget. Of that 8% variation, two percent are City requested enhancements, three percent are PG&E and other utility related items with less than three percent falling under design related.
