Omni Design provided Architectural Programming and Design Services for a Public Safety Master Plan on an 8.5-acre site in Paso Robles, accommodating the City’s new Fire Station No. 3 and a public safety training center. Following the master plan, Omni prepared full architecture and engineering construction documents for the 6,700-square-foot fire station, which was approved by the City, Planning Commission, and City Council before moving into construction.
Key Features
Fire Station Facility: The new Fire Station No. 3 includes offices, living quarters, vehicle and equipment maintenance space, and provisions for controlling the spread of hazardous materials.
Training Center: The public safety training center features a training tower, training props, and a dedicated classroom, serving as a regional resource for first responder preparedness.
Future Flexibility: The design provides for the addition of apparatus bays in future construction phases and allows conversion of the living quarters into a future training classroom, accommodating the City’s long-term growth needs.
Outcome
The project was successfully built with minimal design-related change orders. The final construction cost was $5,266,669 against an original budget of $4,897,000, a 7.5% variation, of which less than 3% was design-related; the remainder was driven by City-requested enhancements and utility-related items. Fire Station No. 3 is fully operational and serves as a model of efficient public safety facility delivery for the City of Paso Robles.
