Omni Design conducted a comprehensive evaluation of Fire Station No. 15, built in the early 1960s with additions in the 1970s. The assessment focused on seismic integrity, life safety, energy efficiency, accessibility, code compliance, and operational functionality.

Objectives:

  • Assess structural and operational capacity for earthquakes.
  • Address safety concerns of a 60-year-old facility.
  • Identify improvement options: minimal upgrades, moderate renovations, or a new facility.

Approach:

  • Stakeholder Input: Interviews with staff on equipment, operations, and maintenance.
  • Physical Assessment: Evaluation of structure, utilities, and operational flow.
  • Improvement Plan: Multi-tiered recommendations ranging from seismic upgrades to a new facility.

Key Recommendations:

  • Advanced alerting systems and vehicle deployment safety.
  • Living spaces with environmental controls and durable finishes.
  • Emergency system redundancy and decontamination zones.

Outcome: Omni Design’s report provided cost-effective upgrade options, ensuring Fire Station No. 15 remains resilient, operationally efficient, and future-ready, with solutions tailored to both immediate and long-term needs.
